The Science & Technology Organization (STO) was created as a subsidiary organization of NATO in the North Atlantic Treaty signed in Washington in 1949. Its main task is to ensure the collective needs of NATO and its partner states in the field of science and technology. To this end, it does scientific research, technology development, transition, application and field testing, experimentation and a range of scientific activities that include systems engineering.
