Digital Library unique collections

University Library in Bratislava Digital Library currently contains over 1.5 milions pages of various library materials - old and precious manuscripts, music works, maps, monographic publications (encyclopedias, dictionaries, manuals, ...), periodical publications (newspapers, magazines, calendares, yearbooks, ...) ranging from the 15th century up to now.

Among them, we consider these materials, collections or items unique, interesting, precious and remarkable :

* Basagic collection of islamic manuscripts : a remarkable collection of islamic texts whose exceptionality has been recognized by the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme

    * manuscripts collection : contains manucsripts that are interesting for its content, graphical layout (decorations, calligraphy, text structure) and handicraft, all reflecting not only culture and knowledge of the era. The collection contains manuscripts mostly from the 15th and 16th century. The oldest manuscript is from the year 1200.

* the Pressburger Zeitung collection : a very special collection dedicated to a newspaper that had been issued in Bratislava for more than 180 years. The periodical used to have a large amount of different supplements (Unterhaltungsblatt, Intelligenzblatt, Im Reiche der Todten, ...). It´s focus was political and social conditions and since the second half of the 19th century it concentrated on Slovak issues, too.

     * The Library of Ludovit Stur : a unique collection building the foundations of the Slovak-related fund of the Library. This collection was received by the Library as the Institute for czechoslovak language and literature Library, founded in 1827 and representing a collection of old and revivalist documentary heritage from the Teacher Institute (Učiteľský ústav) in Modra. The collection is connected to Ludovit Stur and Frantisek Palacky. Except for a large number of Slovak and Czech books the collection contains many Yugoslavian works.
