Mamatey's collection

Prof.Dr.Victor Samuel Mamatey

In the years 1991-1994 has decided to make a donation to the University library in Bratislava a unique collection of books in the field of modern European history. This separate collection named as Mamatey’s library currently has more then 1439 titles of books that have been profesionally prepared in the virtua catalogization system and made available to he wide range of the readers community.

Victor S. Mamatey was born in North Bradocck in the state of Pensylvania, USA. The son of a Slovak emigrant in America named Albert Mamatey a co-signator of the Cleveland and Pittsburgh agreement, the president of the Slovak league and the National Slovak society of America.

He graduated from high school in Slovakia, studied at the Comenius University in Bratislava. Completed the study of history at the University of Chicago, USA. Doctorate of philosophy received at the University Sorbonne in Paris. After returning to the U.S. he was appointed as a university professor for teaching and research activities in the field of modern European history. The conceptual and thematic wide research, lecturing and teaching activities as well as published paper introduced VS Mamatey Czecho-slovakian issue of international scientific forum and linguistically made I available to the wide public. He was a member of several historical societies.

Fonds and services

Mamatey's llibrary belongs to the special collections at the UKB which covers the basic literature relating to Central Europe and the wider history of twentieth century. The collections is mainly used by foreign students.
