World Heritage
The UNESCO World Heritage List may be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as an original exceptional work of universal value for its architecture, building quality, urban or landscape character, which represents faith, cultural tradition of the interaction of man and nature. The objects proposed for inscription are assessed by experts (ICOMOS), they are proposed to be compared with objects inscribed, proposed or unproposed objects of a similar nature and the selection also takes into account possible threats and the ability to protect the objects in the future.
The Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage was adopted on 16 November 1972 in Paris and entered into force on 17 December 1975; for Czechoslovakia on 15 February 1991 (Notification of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism No. 159/1991 Coll.). The Slovak Republic acceded to the Convention on 31 March 1993 by succession as the 134th state.
Do roku 2008 pristúpilo k dohovoru 185 štátov, ktoré sa zaviazali chrániť spolu 878 lokalít - 679 lokalít svetového kultúrneho dedičstva, 174 lokalít svetového prírodného dedičstva a 25 lokalít svetového zmiešaného dedičstva, ktoré sa nachádzajú na území 145 štátov.
