The Memory of the World Register is an international list of library and archival documents and collections of world significance, established in 1995 with the aim of preserving the world's documentary heritage. It is a list of documents that have been proposed for inclusion in the list by the International Advisory Committee (IAC) and subsequently approved by the Director-General of UNESCO. At each session of the IAC, which takes place every two years, the list is expanded with new elements. The register currently consists of almost 500 items from 100 countries around the world.
