The debate was moderated for DK NATO by: Rastislav Hrubý and Samuel Morvay
This year we commemorate the 20th anniversary of our membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance. On this occasion, the DK NATO at UKB decided to hold a debate on the complexity of the process of negotiation and negotiations of the political elite, which after the end of the Cold War directed the Slovak Republic into the community of democratic states. Although it was not easy at all, because different political interests entered the whole matter, in the end the Slovak Republic managed to become a full-fledged member of both groupings.
Ambassador Ján Foltín, who was the Slovak ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1998-2005, and Emil Kuchár, the Slovak ambassador to the Council of the EU and NATO in 1997-1999, came to discuss

Although we don't realize it, the struggle between the powers goes on continuously because today the are no longer fights only on distant fronts far from the civilian population, the fight gradually shifted through hybrid operations and modern technologies absolutely everywhere, even in virtual space.

After the defeat of the French and the expulsion of the British from Europe, the Western Front did not form again until June 6, 1944, when the important and long-prepared Operation Overlord came. Thanks to the success of the military operation, the Western Front was opened and the end of the war was near. The main goal of the exhibition is to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy, which contributed to the defeat of Nazi Germany.

Digitization has brought us many new achievements and procedures in areas such as economy, healthcare, education, public transport or public administration, but in addition to positive aspects, it also brought new ones opportunities for spreading extremist content. The main task of the exhibition is therefore to draw readers' attention to a specific species literature that deals with this negative phenomenon.

The book exhibition was available from 4.4. to 30.4. 2024
20 years ago, the Slovak Republic became part of the strongest international and intergovernmental military-political alliance in the world. NATO coordinates the joint activities of all member states in the field of defense and security, and at the same time enables the sharing of technologies and standards between individual members of the Alliance. In addition to the military area, it promotes democratic values, builds trust and tries to prevent military conflicts. Thanks to our membership in the Alliance, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Slovak Republic is secured, because based on the "musketeer rule" - one for all, all for one - any attack on one member would be equivalent to an attack on the entire Alliance.
The NATO Depository Library has been operating within the University Library since 2004, which is a library and information center about the North Atlantic Alliance in Slovakia. The NATO Study Center provides professional information and publications issued directly by individual NATO sections.
