Central Data Archive

University Library in Bratislava submitted on 30th November 2011 at the written invitation of the Ministry of Culture (OPIS-2011/2.1/08-NP) of 1st July 2011 "Application of non-repayable financial contribution" as an eligible applicant for the national implementation of the investment project no. 8 "The central data archive" (CDA) in the Information Society Operational Program, Priority Axis 2 Development of repository institutions and modernization of the national infrastructure (OPIS PO 2).

The total maximum indicative amount allocated for CDA project is  33,193,918 € including VAT (75.31% of the European Regional Development Fund, 13.29% source state budget, 11.40% source of state budget funding for the principle of pro-data).

By submitting an application for non-repayable grant, the project moved into the CDA of the formal assessment and expert assessment.

On 13th March 2012 was concluded for the provision of the grant, making the project "Central data archive" moved into the implementation phase. The total value of the subject contract amounts to 33,184 470.48 .

The national project "DESCRIPTION PO2 no. 8 - Central Data Archive" is building a comprehensive integrated system of long-term preservation and protection of digital content, its acquisition, processing, protection and utilization. The project will build a central data archive, which must be in accordance with prescribed standards to ensure storage of digital objects in at least two geographically separate locations distant min. 50 km. Two sites are: University Library in Bratislava (primary location) and a secondary site that will be established in rented premises. Sites are equipped with appropriate hardware and software and will be interconnected via data telecommunications networks. The data archive will also store a passive storage media (tertiary locality), which is located in the building of the University Library in Bratislava.

The primary goal of the project is to record collecting, long-term archiving and protection of digital content, implementation and webharvesting, webarchiving. This activity at the same time create the basis for the systematic promotion of physical digitization of cultural, scientific and intellectual heritage to within digitization projects and campaigns to address the PFI (Repository institutions). The target state will build a set of storage locations in fulfilling all defined parameters, indicators, criteria and standards established by the CDA project.
