About diplomatic life with Jozef Šesták

Discussion with presentation of book took place on November 28, 2023

Moderated discussion was led by Rastislav Hrubý and Samuel Morvay.

Jozef Šesták is Slovak diplomat, who worked as General Consul of the Slovak Republic in Istanbul, Turkey until the end of 2018. In his latest publication, Diplomat: My missions and stories, he writes about his extensive diplomatic life, which began back in the days of socialist Czechoslovakia. Readers can read interesting information about the modern political history and personalities of our state and partly also of the world. The goal of the debate was to bring this exceptional book closer to the general and specialist public. About the diplomacy of the European Union with Erik Pajtinka

Discussion with presentation of book took place on November 27, 2023.

Moderated discussion was led by Peter Rusiňák.

Erik Pajtinka's latest book Diplomacy of the European Union provides a comprehensive overview of the functioning of the EU's diplomatic institutions and a lot of original knowledge on the issue of EU diplomacy. In the publication, you can find out information about the roles of diplomats in EU embassies, about the various privileges and immunities of EU diplomats and about the protocol rules that diplomats must follow. The main goal of the debate was to present this exceptional book to the general and specialist public. The organizer of the discussion was the NATO Depository Library at ULB.

      
  

Slovak Security Forum 2023 - 30 Years of Security

The Conference took place on 26th September, 2023.

The Slovak Security Forum (SBF) organized by the Euro-Atlantic Center in cooperation with the University Library in Bratislava, under the auspices of the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and the Minister of Defence, is the second largest security conference and represents one of the basic pillars of the Slovak dialogue on national security.

One of the main goals of SBF 2023 was to create a platform for an open discussion on the development of the priorities of the defence and security policy of the Slovak Republic as a member of NATO and the EU and to retrospectively evaluate 30 years of security in Slovakia. The conference was therefore divided into three-panel discussions, in which speakers from the governmental, non-governmental and academic spheres had the opportunity to discuss the most current challenges facing the Slovak Republic as one of the members of NATO and the EU.

The Conference also included an exhibition of books on the given topic from the DL NATO fund.

   
         
   
         
   
  

Turn to the East? Attitudes of the Slovak public and the political scene to Russia and China

The expert discussion took place on September 14, 2023.

It was an expert closed door meeting for invited guests from the professional community.

The debate was attended by: Kristína Šefčíková, project manager at the Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI), Katarína Klingová, GLOBSEC analyst and Vladimír Šnídl, journalist of Denník N. The discussion was moderated by: Matej Kandrík, director of the Adapt Institute.

The discussion presented a new analytical study of attitudes towards Russia and China, which was created as part of the MapInfluenCE project of the independent Prague think-tank Association for International Affairs (AMO). The debate focused on how topics related to these two powers are reflected in the Slovak online environment, not only in the context of Russian aggression against Ukraine, but also in connection with other relevant topics, such as the issue of strategic dependencies, the attitude to issues of human rights, risks of technological and economic cooperation, or relations with Taiwan. The discussion was organized within the MapInfluenCE project of the Association for International Affairs (AMO) in cooperation with the Adapt Institute. The contribution for NATO DL was represented by the exhibited publications, which the participants of the discussion could look at, at the end of the event.

Organizational and financial background of Czech and Slovak disinformation actors

The event took place on June 26, 2023

It was an expert closed door meeting for invited guests from the professional community.

Peter Dubóczi, Michaela Ružičková and Matej Friedl presented the research for the Adapt Institute/Infosecurity.sk, for the Prague Security Studies Institute Kristína Šefčíková and also Karin Kőváry Sólymos from the Ján Kuciak Investigative Center. The contribution for DK NATO was represented by exhibited publications dealing with disinformation, which the participants of the research could look at at the end.

     
           
     
  

Are corruption and the rule of law susceptible to disinformation?

The Event took place on May 25, 2023

The main speaker was the director of Transparency international Slovakia, Michal Piško.

The lecture was focused on recognizing and exposing disinformation in the media space, differentiating reliable sources from deceptive ones and more actively involving the public in the fight against disinformation connected mainly with corruption and undermining the rule of law. The lecture also included an exhibition of books on the given topic from the DK NATO fund.

Main goal of exhibition was to present professional publications, approaching the life of M.R. Štefánik and his work during the First World War.

     
  

International security in the context of professional information

The book exhibition was held from 4.3.2023 to 4.3.2024

The book exhibition was focused on the formation of global security policy from its inception to the present. The main goal was to provide readers with a presentation of publications from well-known authors who guarantee quality, relevant and verifiable information from multiple points of view on various topics related to security, defense and the military. Thanks to this, the reader was able to familiarize himself with a wide range of professional books that will help him to better evaluate what is and what is not true and, thanks to this, to understand the current global development.
