SK UNESCO was established in 1993, but in 2016, when the new Statute of SK UNESCO came into force, it underwent a fundamental transformation. Its main mission is to support and develop UNESCO programs in the fields of education, culture, science, environment and information, and to this end, to recruit and involve experts from various organizations, institutions and departments of relevant ministries and individuals in cooperation on individual projects. The entry of the Slovak Republic into UNESCO (9.2.1993) created opportunities to continue the previous activities of Slovak experts within the framework of UNESCO intergovernmental programs and to develop the activities of Slovak Committees for selected UNESCO programs.
