UNESCO Chairs are established under the UNITWIN (University Twinning and Networking Programme) programme, with the aim of supporting research and educational development. The UNITWIN programme, which was launched in 1992 to support international cooperation between universities, has grown to approximately 1000 Chairs and 45 networks in 125 countries. This network of universities around the world supports UNESCO’s work, from exploring new challenges, to developing international normative instruments, to implementing policy recommendations at the national level. It acts as a bridge builder between academia, civil society, local communities, research, policy-making and UNESCO. |
